Pressure drop is money — every PSI you lose across a fouled filter is pump energy you paid for and can’t use. Here’s how to lower pressure drop in industrial water lines without sacrificing filtration quality.
1. Stop Filtering What You Can Separate
The fastest fix is upstream: dense solids don’t need media to be removed. Hurricane® up-flow housings use cyclonic separation to drop sand and grit out of the flow before the cartridge, so the media stays open — and pressure drop stays flat — far longer.
2. More Media Area = Less Velocity = Less Drop
Pressure drop rises with velocity through the media. Pleated high-area cartridges spread the same flow across dramatically more surface: a single Harmsco Hurricane cartridge carries up to 75 sq. ft. of media. Multi-cartridge housings multiply that again.
3. Right-Size the Housing
A housing run at the top of its flow curve clogs faster and drops harder. Sizing one step up often pays for itself in energy and cartridge savings. Harmsco builds stainless housings from single-round units to 2,400 GPM systems, engineered for high flow at low pressure drop and rated to 150 PSI working pressure.
4. Change Cartridges on Differential, Not on the Calendar
Install gauges up- and downstream and change elements at your target ΔP. It keeps the line at design pressure and stops both premature change-outs and collapse-inducing overruns.
